The Difference Between Room Sprays and Eau de Parfum — and Why Safety Testing Matters

Room sprays and eau de parfum may share beautiful fragrances, but they’re made for completely different purposes — and safety testing ensures they’re both used correctly.

Room Sprays are designed to scent spaces, not skin. They use higher levels of fragrance in a water or alcohol base that disperses quickly through the air. Because of this, they’re classed as home fragrance products and must meet strict UK safety standards under the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS). Each formula must be CLP compliant, clearly labelled, and registered through the UK’s Product Safety Portal before it can be sold.

Eau de Parfum, on the other hand, is formulated for direct contact with the skin. These blends are more refined and use cosmetic-grade ingredients approved for personal use. They require cosmetic safety assessments by certified chemists and registration on the UK Cosmetic Product Notification Portal (SCPN).

At Pick n Melt, every fragrance type — whether it’s a room spray, wax melt, or eau de parfum — is properly tested and registered for its intended use. We never repackage or cross-sell one as the other. That means what’s designed for your home stays for your home, and what’s made for your skin is safe to wear.

It’s all about responsibility, transparency, and trust — because great fragrance should be enjoyed safely.
