Why use soy wax over paraffin wax?

Soy Wax is a Natural Product

Soy Wax is a natural product which is extracted from the soy bean. It is a byproduct of the food industry. Whereas although you could argue that Paraffin is also a natural product, it is extracted from crude oil and is a byproduct of the petroleum industry.

Soy Wax is Environmentally Friendly

Extracted from the soy bean, soy wax is friendly to the environment. Petroleum is not and therefore nor is the wax which is produced from it. It seems crazy to be unnecessarily burning a resource we cannot get back when there is a product available which grows back year after year. Burning Soy wax does not pollute our atmosphere.

There are no damaging toxins

Burning Paraffin wax produces the same chemicals as burning diesel. The toxins released from burning diesel  lead to the formation and emission of hazardous molecules such as toluene and benzene. It also produces formaldehyde which is known to be related to the cause of cancer. In 2009 the American Chemicals Society suggested using Soy Wax or Beeswax as an alternative.

Soy Wax produces a cleaner burn

When burning paraffin wax you will notice that the glass becomes blackened rather quickly and can actually turn the glass entirely black. This does not happen with Soy Wax. Due to the wax being derived from vegetables and not toxic petroleum Soy Wax produces a a toxin free, steady clean burn.

A lower Melting Point

If you have an accident and spill paraffin wax you will notice that it burns and hardens straight away damaging whatever it sticks to. If you spill it on the carpet it will likely melt it and ruin the carpet. Soy wax has a melt point of around 20 degrees Celsius lower! Due to it being a vegetable wax it also cleans up with a little soap and water. It also means that you will not burn yourself and it also makes for easy cleaning out your wax warmer which can be done with a piece of kitchen roll or tissue paper.

Soy Wax produces a much more efficient scent throw

What are wax melts?

Wax Melts and Wax Tarts. What are they and what’s all the fuss? Everybody knows what scented candles are and everybody knows what an oil burner is.

Oil Burner

You put your fragrance oil in the burner (This could be an essential oil or a purpose made fragrance oil), top it up with some water, pop your tealight underneath and before long your room smells of your chosen scent. Delicious. But before long your nose catches a wiff of burning! Oh **** the water has ran out and your oil burner has started to burn the oil. The room is full of a nasty smelling smoke. So you quickly run to the kitchen and grab a cup of water. Pour a little water in the top of the oil burner. But as you are in a slight panic trying to stop the house burning down or stop choking on the ghastly fumes, you pour a little too much and it spills over the edge. But all is good as the smoke has stopped. You add a little more fragrance oil. Perfect. Until your oil burner drys out once again! But this time quicker as the oil burner is hotter, so the water evaporates quicker!

Wax Warmer

This is where the wax warmer comes in! Instead of water and fragrance oil you use wax and fragrance oil. The wax is already fragrance. You simply pop it in the top of your warmer, pop under the tealight and leave the wax to melt. Before you know it, your room smells lovely. The difference is that the wax will never evaporate and thus the warmer will never smoke. When the fragrance is all gone you simply remove the wax and add some fresh wax. You can even use an electric wax warmer so there is no need for tealights, making it much safer and something you can forget about whilst leaving your home smell amazing!
